Desiree and Angela, have some similarities. Both of them are ignored by their own husband, mentally abused, had powerful husbands; Armand was the master of black slavery and land owner, Gilbert was a famous politician, and at last they chose to suicide to end up their chain. However they also have differences that Desiree, had a half black child, but Angela didnt have any, Desiree came from unknown family background, but Angela was not, Desiree had to deal with the problem about races and gender, while Angela only had to face the gender problem, between man and female.

Desiree and Angela were voiceless, that is one of the similarity that they have too in common. But while Desiree was totally voiceless, never even tried to go against her husband, Angela used the other way to express herself; the diary. While both of them were still alive, they kept quiet and obey at their husbands, as the voiceless way. But after their death, Angela, had a voice, she could tell everything; even her extremely confidential secret, by using her diary. By letting Gilbert to know that he wasnt the guy for her, she could prostrate him and made him to feel that he got betrayed. Probably it was her best way to take revenge indirectly.

The conflicts that they had were different too. While Desiree had to deal with her unknown family background, her half black baby, being isolated by Armand and lost her love from her him, Angela had to face about the total unconcern by her husband, being alone at home with her only mate, Sissy Miller and the complicated and illegal relationship with B.M. I cant tell which is more serious and which is not, every single conflicts that they had with their husbands and the society, I tried to find the way out of it, and tried to solve those conflicts. Did they succeed? My opinion is, they didnt, nothing was solved but they just escaped from the reality of their fate.

Both story plots are believable. Especially with The Legacy I truly understood and felt sympathy toward Angela, because I had a similar situation in my family, and it does happen in the society now. But about the Desirees Baby, I never lived in the countries that had race problems, especially black slavery and white men. So even though I understood her situations, at the same time I was thinking that why did Armand had to be so serious about it until he doesnt love her anymore. However because I didnt know about the society of that time fully, this story made me study on the 18-19th century by myself and gave me some knowledge of that time.

As I mentioned above, The Legacy appealed to me more than the Desirees Baby, because it also happens at 21st century, in the modern days while all genders are mostly treated equally, and also my family experienced it too.
