The Plague by Albert Camus

The Plague is a novel set in Algeria in 1940. It follows a wide array of characters during a plague in Algeria. The characters range from scientists and doctors attempting to stem the flood of the plague to simple refugees and Americans and Europeans vacationing in Algeria. The novel is existential in tone, dwelling grimly on themes of the meaninglessness and irrationality of life and on the sudden and brutal destruction caused by plague, war, and other catastrophes.
