This story was about a girl called India and she moved away from her home in Watley to a trailer park in the small town of Naomi, Florida, and she doesnt know anyone at all. Her Dad is a preacher of the church and he is always busy. But one day her dad sends her to the supermarket to get some macaroni-cheese, rice and tomatoes and she ends up coming back with a dog. This dog she calls Winn-Dixie helps her make friends throughout the story and ends up liking the people she used to hate. She becomes well known and liked in the neighbourhood and creates a special bond with her father.

The opening/beginning of the story was exciting. It made me want to read more and get into the story, fast! The main characters were India, the preacher (her dad), and of course Winn-Dixie. India is a really nice and polite little girl. Her wide open and knowledgeable mind makes her curious. A conflict in the story was when Winn-Dixie got lost in a thunder storm. Opal and her father rekindle their strained relationship. India convinced her Dad to tell her 10 things about her Mum (who abandoned them years ago) because she was 10 years old. Opal gains wisdom and different outlooks of life through relationships with adults and peers, and grows emotionally in the process. She was more forgiving and became the sort of person who would say, Know someone before you judge them. Shed say that from experience.

The story was written in first person which I liked because she expressed her feelings and you could see things from her point of view. Writing it in first person was important because the story was about her.

It was a fantastic book to read because I liked the theme of the story and how one dog can change everything!
