Arguementative essay on the princess bride and The Silent Gondoliers

The Princess is a book written by William Goldman, under the embridgment of SMorgenstern. It is about A farmers daughter, Buttercup,is shamefully rude and abusive to her familys farmhand, Westley, until she realizes and confesses that she loves him. He goes off to seek his fortune so they can be married. Then she hears that he has been killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. Devastated, she knows she will never love again. When Prince Humperdink discovers her and asks her to marry him (or die), she acquiesces. But before the wedding she is kidnapped by a giant, a Spanish swordsman, and a genius. She is kidnapped, or rescued, from them by the man in black after he successfully matches swords, strength, and wits and overcomes them. Prince Humperdinck, comes after them and

Buttercup agrees to return with Humperdinck in exchange for Westlys release. Westly was later tortured by Humperdinck and 20 years was sucked out of his life. But Westly came back to life with the help of Inigo. And Westly later find his true love Buttercup and they both lived happily after. The Silent Gondoliers isa bookwritten by William Goldman, under the embridgment of S' Morgenstern. It is about why the Gondoliers of Venice no longer sing through the tale of the Protagonist Luigi.Luigi is one of the most talented gondoliers in Venice, but his truest desire is to sing out loud with his whole heart, mind and soul. But unfortunately, the Venetians do not appreciate Luigis singing. Soon no one wants to hire him, and Luigi is forced to quit his profession. Thus Luigi begins a journey to fulfill his desire of learning the art of singing. He returns home years later in defeat, fearing that he will live out his days in mediocrity. But when disaster strikes the city, Luigi is quick to help, and he may just find his happiness where he least expects. The both books are fairy tales and are written historically. The books have a different plot and a different point of view.

The majorsimilarityin both the Princess bride and the Silent Gondoliers is that they are both written by William Goldman and it isboth underthepseudonymn S' Morgenstern. The cover of the Silent Gondoliers cites as its author "William Goldman, as told by S' Morgenstern" and the title page says "the Silent Gondoliers, A fable by S Morgenstern author of the Princess Bride". There is even an "about the author" note at the back which relates biographical information about S' Morgenstern with no mention of Goldman. The cover of the Princess Bride cites its author as S Morgenstern classic tale of true love and high adventure and after writing the title the Princess Bride he wrote his name under the title. This shows that Goldman uses Morgenstern as an abridgment of the Princess Bride. What Goldman did was he wrote both books the same irreverent style.

Love is involved in both the Princess Bride and the silent Gondoliers, but it is portrayed differently. In the Silent Gondoliers is about the romantic nature of Luigi as a gondolier, a lovable gondolier who wants to sing, even though he has no talent whatsoever, he shows us the struggle beauty, heart ache and satisfaction of reaching for the stars. Luigi is incredibly killed as a gondolier and wins the heart of the girl he adores. But poor Luigi is sent out of the gondoliers. His girlfriend dumps him, and he ends up washing dishes in a tavern with only his dreams to sustain him.The Princess Bride is about the true love between Westly and Buttercup. The stories main struggle was one of long lost lovers to re-unite despite the machinations of an evil king and his numerous henchmen didn't stop their love for each other. Buttercup and Westly were madly in love with each other, in the first chapter of the book as Westly leaves Buttercup to find his fortune in America, he confesses his love in these words;

I have stayed these years in my hovel because of you.

I have taught myself language because of you, I have made

My body strong because i thought you might be pleased with

Strong body........ (pg 54)

But Buttercup's respond was;

"I will never love anyone else only Westly until i die"(pg 55)

This show the unconditional love between Westly and Buttercup.

Therefore, the main character in both book are both in love for something but one is the love for passion and the other is a romantic love. Luigi has the love for his dream that he will be able to overcome his terrible singing voice and realize his dream. But in the Princess Bride Westly has the love for Buttercup since he has been a farm boy and his promise to Buttercup was that he will always be there for her which shows that Westly have a true love for Buttercup. So therefore, the similarity between the Princess Bride and the Silent Gondoliers is that,love is involved in both books, but it is portrayed in a different way.

The difference between the Princess bride and the Silent Gondoliers is, the Silent Gondoliers is a very short book and it is only 110 pages because Morgensternbased it on real life event while the Princess Bride is a long book and it is 398 pages because Morgenstern based it on true love and high adventure. Therefore difference between the Princess Bride and the Silent Gondoliers is that one is shorter and the other is longer.

Another difference between the Princess Bride and the Silent Gondoliers is, the Princess Bride is structured in a narrative form while the silent Gondoliers is structured in a legendary form. In the Silent Godoliers, Goldman's event are legendary, so are the various characters, ranging from Luigi, the greatest man to ever play a gondola, to Cristaldi the Pickle, a deaf centenarian who could teach the most tone deaf man to sing. This shows Goldman adds several legendary characters from life.

The tale of Luigi actually starts in Chapter III and the previous chapters I and II build up further mythology behind the name Morgenstern and the back story of Gondolierian history".

What this shows about the story is that, Morgenstern is trying to tell why the Gondoliers of Venice, once world-famous for their beautiful singing voices,are now silent. The princess bride is narrated by William Goldman. The story is narrated in different formsGoldman tells the story by given us an introduction before the story, Goldman frequently interrupts the narrative to comment on why he chose to cut a certain chapter, or he offers commentaries on how he felt some passages to be andhe alsoforeshadows (telling what is to come in the story) by reading the story to his grandson. For example;

"Interruption, and hey, how about giving old Morgenstern credit for a ......... didnt you thinkfor a while at least they really were married? I did".(pg 204)

This was Goldman's interruption when the old woman was accusing Buttercup in her dreamof giving up her love.
