Lennie in Of Mice And Men Essay

From the very beginning of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck we know that Lennie is going to get in trouble. We know this because of the foreshadowing and character identification that Steinbeck uses throughout the novel. One example of foreshadowing in the novel is that George constantly tells Lennie that if he gets in trouble to go back to the brush and hide. An example of character identification is when Lennie kills the mice which shows his strength and also the fact that Lennie has special needs shows that he doesnt compared things completely and doesnt know right from wrong which can lead to him getting into trouble.

When George constantly tells Lennie that if he gets in trouble to go to back to the brook and hide this foreshadows that he might get into trouble. In the novel Steinbeck states well look Lennie if you just happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an hide in the brush( pg 15). The fact that George keeps saying this over and over again makes the audience realize that Lennie will get in some sort of trouble throughout the story. Throughout the novel Lennie shows different characteristics which shows that he may end up in trouble.

Lennie has special needs and doesnt comprehend things which shows that he could possibly get into some form of trouble. Lennie is also a very strong person, he kills mice and his dog on accident, this shows his strengths which could also foreshadow that he will get in some form of trouble. There are also many events in the novel that Steinbeck uses to keep the audiences attention to the rise of the climax. Some of these events include, when Lennie gets into a fight with Curley, when Candys dog gets shot, and when Lennie accidentally kills his dog. All of these events keep the audiences attention and lead to the climax which is when Lennie accidentally kills Curleys wife.

Inclusion, throughout the story us as an audience can tell that Lennie is going to get into some form of trouble. We can tell this by the foreshadowing and character direction the author uses.
