One of the most interesting novels that I have read is The Color Purple. The main character of the novel is an African American woman named Celie. She lives a terrible life, mistreated by men. Although she goes through all of these tribulations she is able to overcome them.

The theme of the novel is the destruction put upon the African Americans. It took place in the south so there was racial hatred, and hatred within themselves (like black on black crime). I say this because the black men, destroyed their black women, by raping them, mistreating them and putting them down, they got to the women mentally and physically. Celie was a victim of this- she went through racism, discrimination, everything you can think of. Her life is bad because, even though she is being demoralized by the public, the same happens behind the doors of her home. Her father and her husband makes it worse for her, it doesnt get any worse than this. She has no control over her body or her freedom, and leaves in violence everyday of her life, because she is not given her human rights. She is not the only character in the book that is broken down like this, the other is her friend Sophia. Another theme is the power of the women. I say this because these women are strong, and held on, they let society put them down, but they did not put themselves down. Especially when they came together, they are able to find their basic human rights, and joy of freedom, from violence.

But one important thing is that Celie is very Strong, The qualities that build her up are perseverance, strength, and love. This was something that struck me. I think that Celie is an amazing character. Though she is mistreated and abuse she is able to love, and love others more than she loves herself. Celie grew as strong character, because she never gives up, and is determined to succeed in building her life. She went out of her way, anytime she could to help her loved ones such as her sister Nettie. Also she is still able to love her friend Shug, although she most off the times does bad things to her, Celie over looks them, and keeps caring for her. She also wrote letters to God, but I believe that she was helped by God because she helped her self, she persevered through so much, and kept a strong head on her shoulders, was also strong for others because of the love she had for them. Another thing that struck me was the way African American men treated their women. I mean they were already being put down and discriminated by racism of the people from the south, instead of them t o help each other, and bring themselves up, they decide to bring the women down, and make them feel worse about themselves, but luckily they are able to survive and succeed.

I liked this novel because, it showed me that I should never give up no matter the situation, and persevere through any problem. There is always hope if you keep trying, Thats what Celie did. I see her as being a beautiful person, because if I was to be in her position, I would have so much hatred in my heart, and no room for love at all, but reading this book changes everything,

The result of everything in the end was priceless. Celie had to go through a rough life before being able to find happiness, which she eventually did. Her life was put back together, like a jigsaw puzzle, and life couldnt be any better for her. She was able to live, and be free of all pain, abuse, sadness, and also able to have ownership and control over her body and life. Happiness became something she could keep forever in her heart forever right next to where she kept her unconditional love.
