No Exit Study Guide

No Exit

No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre

No Exit is a play by the French Existentialist, Jean-Paul Sartre, that takes place in hell. Three damned characters, Garcin, Ines and Estelle are locked in a triangle of guilt and denial where they cannot be forgiven or forgive themselves. Estelle attempts to seduce Garcin, who wants to be forgiven for his cowardice. Ines is appalled, telling Garcin that Estelle only forgives because she wants him. Estelle tries to kill Ines but she cannot die again. The three resign to eternally torturing one another.
