Daisy Miller Study Guide

Daisy Miller

Daisy Miller by Henry James

In Daisy Miller, Winterbourne, a young American who lives in Geneva, is enthralled by the title character, a young woman from New York who is unlike any of the other women in Geneva. The novel explores class conflict and social behavior, as Winterbourne's aunt warns him that Daisy's family is low class and that she's not right for him. Daisy seems to ignore the trappings of society and takes up with men of ill-repute, which leads to her downfall and death.
