Middlemarch

Middlemarch by George Eliot

Middlemarch is a Victorian novel which follows the interlocking narratives of many citizens of the English town of Middlemarch, including the young socialite Rosamond the parson Farebrother, and the local politician Mr. Brooke. The three primary threads of the novel follow idealistic and benevolent Dorthea, the erstwhile Fred, and the young doctor Lydgate. This celebrated work explores Victorian social values, the concepts of self-delusion and fate, as well as providing a critique of married life.
