Last Go Round is a Western story written about a fictionalized version of the title event, a legendary competition among bronco trick riders and horsebreakers at the Pendleton Round Up in 1911. The novel focuses on three of the cowboys in particular and engages in a Tall Tale style of storytelling in order to further dramatize the events of the competition and the accomplishments of its most famous few participants, black cowboy George Fletcher, youngester Jonathan E. Lee Spain, and Nez-Perce cowboy Jackson Sundown.
