Waiting for Godot Study Guide

Waiting for Godot

Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett

Waiting for Godot is a play about two men, Estragon and Vladimir waiting on the side of the road for an unknown man named Godot for unknown reasons. On two consecutive days, the wealthy Pozzo and his slave Lucky pass by. On the first day Pozzo is arrogant, on the second day, Pozzo has been blinded and humbled and Lucky is mute. The characters' conversations are both theological and frivolous. Godot never comes and the pair agree to kill themselves tomorrow if Godot does not arrive.
