Major Barbara

Major Barbara by George Bernard Shaw

Major Barbara is a play by George Bernard Shaw about the moral tension between charity and the military. Barbara is a major in the Salvation Army and, while engaged to be married, requires financial assistance from her absent father, Mr. Undershaft, the owner of a munitions factory. Hoping to dispel Barbara's moral revulsion with his occupation, Mr. Undershaft makes a large donation to the charity, though Barbara is resistant. In the end, Barbara comes to terms with her father and she marries Cusins, who inherits the factory.
