Kindred is the story of Dana Franklin, the descendent of slaves who is summoned back in time by Rufus Weylin, the son of a slave-owner, who can reach her across time somehow when he is in mortal danger. Dana attempts to help Rufus as well as the slaves on his father Tom's plantation, but she is continually stymied by the violence and ignorance of the slave-owners. In the end she is maimed by Rufus during an attempted rape and kills him in self-defense.
One Hundred Years of Solitude is a novel about the seven generations of the Buendia family, who founded and live in the town of Macondo. Jose Arcadio Buendia has dreams of Macondo and decides to found it with his wife Ursula Iguaran. Over the generations, numerous misfortunes, ironies and magical occurrences happen in the town to the descendants of the Buendias. In the end, a man manages to decode an old message that chronicles the fate of the Buendia family.
