There are some similarities in Lamb to the Slaughter by: Roald Dahl and The Adventure of the Speckled Band by: Arthur Conan Doyle. A couple similarities are they both deal with murder and they both take place in England. Those are a some similarities but, there are many differences. The main differences are the weapons used, the outcome, and the motive.

In Lamb to the Slaughter Mary Maloney used a lamb chop to murder her husband. Mary gets the lamb chop from the cellar, she reached in the freezer and grabbed the first thing that her hand touched. At first she didnt know what it was, it was wrapped in paper, so she took off the paper and looked at it again. And, it was a lamb chop, or a leg of a lamb. They were having the lamb chop for supper.

Mary Maloneys motive was that she thought her husband was going to leave her. She thought that because Mr. Maloney was coming home late. And, when he came home he was tired all the time. She planned on going out to dinner but since he was tired they ate at home. They were going to eat a lamb chop but she used that to kill him.

She got away with the murder of her husband Patrick Maloney. She walked in the living room and he was on the floor with his legs doubled up and one arm twisted back underneath his body. After, she saw his body she called the police station and when the man answered, she cried to him, Quick! Come quick! Patricks dead!. When the cops came they were asking her questions and her story was when he came in, she was sewing, and that he was to tired to go out to eat. Mary said she had meat in the oven then she walked into the living room with her husband laying on the lying on the floor. The cops said that her husband was killed by a blow on the back of the head administered with a heavy blunt object. Like a big spanner, or a heavy metal vase. They told her to look around the house and see if shes missing any of those objects. But, she didnt find any Mary Maloney asked the cops if they wanted some of the lamb chop. They sat at the table and ate the murder weapon.

The weapon used in The Adventure of the Speckled Band was a snake. Dr. Grimsby Roylott killed both of his step daughters. He put a rope at the end of the vent and it went in his step daughters room. He sent a snake through the vent and down the rope into his step daughters room. Then when she came in and the snake bit her and killed her. Then Dr. Roylott rang a bell and the snake climbed up the rope and came back to him, but when it came back it bit him and killed him.

His motive to kill both of his step daughters was money. He killed them because if they were about to get married and if they got married he would have to share his money with them. Dr. Roylott killed both his step daughters the same way by sending a snake down a vent and down a rope into their bedrooms.

Unlike Mary Maloney in Lamb to the Slaughter, Dr. Grimsby Roylott didnt get away with murder. He wouldve got away but when he rang the bell for the snake to come back to him. The snake came back but when it got to him the snake bit and kill Dr. Roylott. So Sherlock Holmes caught Dr. Roylott but he was dead. Holmes didnt catch him the first murder but since the snake bit Dr. Roylott, Holmes caught him the second time.
