In the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare a main character that changes to become less admirable is Macbeth. He changes from being a loyal, brave soldier who is dedicated to his country, King and wife to a fearful, guilty man, who because of his greed became a character who is less admirable.

At the start of the Play we are introduced to Macbeth as a courageous warrior who wins a very important battle and saves Scotland from the Norwegian King. To honour his bravery and service to his country King Duncan gives Macbeth the tittle of Thane of Cawdore. For brave Macbeth- well he deserves that name, - disdaining fortune, with his brandishd steel, which smoked with bloody execution This tells us that Macbeth fought bravely against Macdonwalds and fully deserves the new title that has been given to him.

The three witches are the first people to bring out his greed with the prophecy that he will become the Thane of Cawdor and then the King of Scotland All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter! When the first prophecy comes true, Macbeth immediately falls into temptation and begins to go after greater power. He starts to loose some of his admirable qualities after realizing that in order to become what the witches promised he must kill Duncan and take over his throne.

But Macbeth is soon dismayed by his own thoughts and decides that he cannot Murder Duncan who is a good man and King and chooses to leave the prospect of him becoming King to chance. If chance will have me King, why chance may crown me without my stir. This shows us that he still has admirable qualities within him.

The evil thoughts that was clouding his thoughts left him temporarily but are brought back by his wife Lady Macbeth as she soon reads Macbeths letter, she decides for herself that Duncan must be Killed so her husband and herself can become King and Queen. and shalt be what thou art promised this shows that there isnt any hesitation about Lady Macbeths desire for power.

Lady Macbeths only one fear is that Macbeth is too full of the milk of human kindness to plan a murder. So, she will have to therefore she will have to take things into her own hands and influence her husband into changing his mind. Macbeth has problems with agreeing to Kill Duncan, for Macbeth thinks of Duncan as a worthy and humble King Hes here in double trust: First, as I am his Kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, who shall against his murderer shut the door, Not bear the knife myself. This shows us that like his wife said Macbeth is far too kind to Kill.

After a while we see that Macbeth is a truly fearful man he is not scared of murdering as he has done it many times before in the battlefields but he is scared of being caught. Lady Macbeth who is extremely manipulative and more confident then her husband believes that they will not fail the task to kill and convinces Macbeth that the plan must be finished. If we should fail? We fail? But screw your courage to the sticking-place, and well not fail.

After killing the king, Macbeth cannot enjoy wearing the crown that he stole because of the mounting fear of somebody discovering his evil actions, and he fears that his friend Banquo the most. This is because Banquo is a good, honourable person who knows Macbeth so well, he is sure that Banquo suspects the truth and will restore the right by revelling the truth. More sings of Macbeth loosing his admirable qualities are shown to us as he becomes jealous of the fact The Withes Phrophersy that Banquos heirs will become kings Thou shalt get Kings, though thou be none. So he decides to kill Banquo and his son Fleance. He makes these plans by himself without asking his wife and has no uncertainty his murder. This is a very crucial place in the change of Macbeth becoming less admirable as it shows us that he has changed completely from the man we were introduced to because that Macbeth would have never conceded killing his trusted friend and partner because of pure greed and jealously.

By the time of the royal banquet Macbeths fear and guilt has driven him to loss of self-control. During the meal he sees the ghost of Banquo siting in his chair and he openly makes himself appear guilty of the crime by denying his guilt and saying Thou canst say I did it Lady Macbeth tries to keep their respect intact by persuading that the King is ill, ending the meal and asking them to leave. Lady Macbeth is scared that Macbeth is not doing a good job in covering up and calls Banquos ghost a painting of you fear and accuses Macbeth of being quite unmanned in folly. Macbeth is now so caught up in guilt that he is scared of everyone around him.

He then goes to meet the witches where he sees the apparitions that tell him beware of Macduff and The power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth they also tell him that Macbeth shall never vanquished be, until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill Shall come against him Macbeth dismisses the apparitions That will never be. This shows us that he is not threatened by the apparitions because they sound impossible.

When Macbeth is told that Macduff has gone to England to join Malcolms side he shows that he is in the Witches power and plans to kill Macduffs family he also says From this moment the very firstlings of my hand heart shall be The firstlings of my hand. This shows how different this Macbeth is from the man that won the battle at the start of the play and got handed a title for his courage, the man who vows to kill any one who come across his way is far from courageous or admirable.

Macbeth was a truly admirable character. He could have been extremely happy as the Thane of Cawdor, but he craved more then what he had and this greed that grew more and more changed him to become less admirable and led him to his death.
