In Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger change is one of many themes in the Novel. Yet is widely said and described threw out. Many changes in Holden life are his often changing of school, how is life use to be and how he him self changes threw out the story.

These aspect of his life will be further describes in the essay.

Holden Caulfield, the main character, tries to avoid a lot of change in his life. He chooses to fight a lot of change because of his bad experiences hes had. Such as when his brother became a big Hollywood star, since he believe everyone in Hollywood is a phony. The fact that his younger brother died from leukemia , which sent him into a blind rage braking all the window in the garage. And having to change from school to school quite frequently since he believe almost everyone in there a phony and a moron.

He doesnt deal with change in his current life. He doesnt fight the fact that hes getting kicked out of Penecy, The Natural history museum back at his hometown is always changing , which is something he really like. His old friend Sally Hayes changes quiet a bit since he last saw her. How he stops Phoebe from changing by taking her to the carosel and keeping her from becoming anything else but a kid.

He also tends to change his mind quite frequently like in Chapter 16 when he decides to go to the museam to look for his sister but when he jest there he jest stands outside and thinks about all the things he remember going in there when he was younger. The other time was in chapter 13 (pgs 95-96) when he decides to get a prostitute and watching her stand there after taking off her green dress made him feel a lot more depressed then sexy. Not long after he decideds he much rather jest talk to her then do anything else.

The duck at the pond ,where he use to go to when he was younger, fly away every winter and he always wonders where they go. He admires them since when th pond freezes over they are so willing and open to jest change their ways a fly south. He wishes that he had the ability to handle change as easily as the ducks do.

Holden hurts himself in many ways by not accepting how somethings have changed. Holden keeps causing himself to go back and fourth into a deep depression by reminiscing on the past. He thinks of all those things in his life that went wrong, such as his brother death and his failing school. Instead of thinking about thing he can change he only thinks of thing he cant change. He doesnt like to jest go with the flow.

When he comes back to his home town he decides not to go back home and instead trying to wait out doing so. Doing this he believes that it will be better to deal with getting kick out of school yet again. He doesnt accept the change that he will have to deal with when he goes home. Instead he procrastinates and wounders around town thinking out his past and calling up old friends. When he later decides to jest leave town his little sister helps him change his mind and decides to go home.

In the End Holden goes there many many changes is which he eventually, if not already, accepts, Something about change are jest how his is, like how he changes his mind a lot. His little sister Phoebe helps him threw many of those changes. yet change is something that is inevitable in life and something everyone must deal with.
