Beowulf was a warrior who knew his place in life, under only god and king and was respected for it. Above all, Beowulf was a hero.

Beowulf was a warrior among men, who gained the respect of those around him by killing beasts and protecting people. His feats were even known across the sea in different kingdoms and villages. He would travel the seas seeking battles against monsters to better the good of the people they tormented. Beowulf heard of the doings of Grendel, he was the monster that was harming the Danes for twelve years. The heroism Beowulf has is shown throughout the book many times. An example of Beowulfs heroism is, Follower and the strongest of the Geats greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in this world. This is what the people that Beowulf has protected say about him, they say he is the strongest warrior anywhere in the world and he can defeat any opponent. Beowulf has come to Hrothgars kingdom to kill Grendel, who has been haunting the kingdom and no warrior could defeat him. Beowulf is a hero in the eyes of his fellow men through his amazing physical strength. He fought in numerous battles and returned victorious from all.

Beowulfs battle with Grendel was a great one, he fought Grendel with nothing but his bare hands and emerged victorious by ripping off Grendels arm, so hard, they all said, that not even the sharpest of swords could have cut it through, broken it off the monsters arm and ended its life, as Beowulf had done armed with only his bare hands. Beowulfs strength is a key part to is heroism; After Beowulf killed Grendel he went to battle his mother because she was seeking revenge for her sons death. Beowulf succeeds in slaying Grendels mother by chopping off her head, he then carries her head back with ease while it takes four regular men to lift her head. Another thing Beowulfs people say about his heroism is, Retelling Beowulfs bravery as they jogged along. And over and over they swore that nowhere on earth or under the spreading sky or between the seas, neither south nor north, was there a warrior worthier to rule over men. They are saying that Beowulf is the strongest of men and best of warriors that no monster can defeat. After fifty years pass by and Beowulf has been king since he killed Grendel and his mother, and a new creature has come to terrorize the Danes. Fifty years earlier, when Beowulf went to fight Grendels mother, he instead gave in to her beauty and promises she offered him. This new creature that comes and harms the Danes is Beowulfs and Grendels Mothers son, King Beowulf followed in the footsteps of King Hrothgar and fathered a child with her.

The heroism Beowulf shows throughout his many battles and feats is proven on several occasions, the Danes spread Beowulfs legend across the land, Beowulf was born a better man! Your fame is everywhere, my friend, Reaches to the ends of the Earth, and you hold it in your heart wisely. King Beowulf was a respected ruler and hero in the eyes of his people, the Danes were grateful to have him as their leader and protector of evil. In Beowulfs final battle against the dragon demon, he is fighting as best as he can but his old age is against him. As Beowulf is facing defeat against his own son, he had to cut his own arm off to save his kingdom by cutting through the dragons throat and ripping out its heart with nothing but his bare hands. As King Beowulf lay on the beach dying Wiglaf comes to his aid, he knows his time had come and he leaves his entire kingdom to Wiglaf. Beowulf and his super human strength protected the Danes for many years, but in the end he wanted to remain in the memories as a man who was flawed, yet still protected the kingdom from any demon that crossed them.
