Analysis essay The Awakening

Chopin uses stylistic devices such as simile, irony and personification to reveal the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Ponteillier. Each of these devices is used in different ways to explain the relationship between them. Simile is used when comparing shadow and mist to her experiences in life and how it is passing across her life; irony is used to describe how mrs.pontellier forcedly agrees that her husband is good. Understatement is used to describe how mr.potelleir thought it was very discouraging; his wife was evinced so little interest in things which concerned him. Also, explain his feelings and their relationship.

It was like a shadow, like a mist passing across her souls summer day (55-56). The quote explains how Mrs.Pontelleir experiences are being like a shadow which it follows her everywhere, also how those experiences are passing across her soul. The quote is showing how hard it is for her to forget the experience and the situation in her married life. The quote is also explaining how hard their relationship is, and how serious it is.

Selecting with dainty and discriminating fingers and a little greedily, all declared that Mr.pontellier was the best husband in the world. Mrs.Pontellier was forced to admit that she knew of none better(87-90) Mrs.Pontellier does not admit that her is not the best inside of heart because it says that she was forced admit that her husband was the best which means that her husband is not really the best for her. Their marriage relationship is like that because he goes Kleins hotel and doesnt care about his children or anything, that he is careless.

He approached his wife with her inattention, her habitual neglect of the children. If it was not a mothers place to look after children. Whose on earth was it? (26-27). When Mrs. Pontellier neglects what her husband says; he thinks that she is neglecting her children but she is not. From that you can understand the relationship between the children and Mr. Pontellier and his wife; they dont seem loving and caring. She is thinking about how her husband doesnt care of children.

In conclusion that Mr. And Mrs. Pontellier doesnt have a strong relationship between them. Mr. Pontellier doesnt care about anything and even his wife and kids which there is unbalanced and they seem to love each other. Which Mrs.pontellier cries for some situations that her husband does like; waking her up and telling her, Raoul is having a high fever telling lies and just wanting to wake her up. They really dont have a strong relationship between them.
