A Rose for Emily

I remember when my grandmother died. It was such a dark time in my life. She was my mothers mom. Her name was Annette but we called her nonna (Italian for grandma). My nonna was full blood Italian and she would never let you forget it. She was a spit fire. I act just like she was. Sometimes, you can hold on to the past for so long, it can almost seem real. But, I try to remember her laugh, her smile, voice and touch. But its harder now. My memories are fading. Sometimes, I would almost kill to just want to talk to her again. I see her. To be with her. Just once more until afterlife. You may recall where Im coming from. Just to remember what it feels like to be loved like them is a feeling indescribable. Some people have trouble of letting go to things and people like that. Like Emily for example.

Emily was a shy girl. She didnt like people in her business and most certainly not her love life. But Emily hadnt always been that way. She was a very vibrant young girl once upon a time. Then one day, she became mysterious and cold. After her father died, she became an object for the cruel townspeople. It almost seems like they decided her fate. She feels alone a trapped from the world. She traps herself from the townspeople because the one thing that makes her happy, they want to take away from her. Homer Barron is a fine man that the townspeople view as low. They dont find him and Emily fit as a pair. Emily is however, in love.

This story is not in chronological order. In the beginning of the story, they explain how they were at the funeral for Emily and how the only person who has seen her in the past ten years, was her servant. The last time anyone was over her house was when they were coming to collect back taxes. They complained about how bad her house smelled after her father died.

I believe that after her father died she need something and someone to just hold on to.

They explained how they simply placed limes around the old house. Then the story goes to when she had just met Homer. The town heavily disagreed and called in Emilys cousins to stop the marriage that they thought was happening. After, Homer leaves town and as does her cousins. But, Homer soon returns back to Emilys house, the place where he never leaves. His body is later found in her bed when a body indents next to it. She had poisoned him and slept with the body every night.

I think the writer writes the story this way so we can come up with our own conclusions. We can infer for ourselves whether Emily was crazy or not. I think that Emily is a representation of us as humans and the townspeople are a symbol of society and how it makes us feel. In conclusion, it takes longer healing periods for different people after losing someone so close. Emily was such down by the townspeople and couldnt live her life the way she wanted to so she had to do it in private.
