A Rose for Emily
Miss Emily died alone in a small town after the civil war era. The death of Miss Emily was a mystery to the townsfolk but all attended the funeral. The men of the town attend because of a respectful obligation of the Greirson family name, woman of the town mosely out of curiosity to see the inside of the Grierson house. The Grierson house had became a town eyesore once was a grand house. No one has seen the inside of the Grierson house or Miss Emily for over 40 year but the old manservant Tobe.
In the 1894 when Colonial Sartories the mayor at that the time had remitted the tax for Miss Emily. The respectful obligation to Miss Emily family name the Colonial Sartories invented a story of how Miss Emily father had loan the town money and that was the way to repay the debt. When the next generation with its modern ideas was dissatisfied with the arrangement so they called a meeting of Alderman and demand that Miss Emily pay taxes in Jefferson County .Once at the Grierson House the Alderman described Miss Emily as a small fat woman dress in black with a gold chain around her neck and a ebony cane with tarnished gold hair. Miss Emily face looked bloated and her skeleton small framed with dry and cold voice. At the meeting Miss Emily stood firm with the agreement that she would have taxes in Jefferson County. The meeting with Miss Emily and the next generation the taxes still remain uncollected until her death
Miss Emily remain lock up thorough tut het life, never experiencing love from no one but her father. She lives a life of loneliness because her father drives off every young male caller, so she was forced to love only one man and that was her father. After her father death Miss Emily was left penniless the people of the town were glad they could pity her. The unemotional Emily cling to her father for three day then break down and they bury him. The town folks did not say she was crazy then but they believed she had t do that to handle her fathers death.
After her father death Emily was sick for a longtime when the town peoples saw again her hair was cut short and she look like a young woman. During this time the town started construction on the side walk and building roads. A Yankee came to town with the name Homer Barron with the construction crew .Homer Barron became Miss Emily new love interest the older town people thought t was unacceptable for a southern lady to date northern day labor. The town people would say poor Emily declaring her fallen from the high Gierson position in the town the townsfolk remarked that Homer like men , and it was know that he dranks with young men in the Elks Cub and that he was not a marrying man .The town felt that they should notified hr kinfolk of the supposed affair. Miss Emily kinfolks came to visit a while next Miss Emily goes to the town druggist to buy poison. The town folks knew the purchase and thought that she will kill herself which they believed to be the best thing. Miss Emily family stayed with her for a while, and then Homer disappeared from town. Homer return late one night and a neighbor saw Homer being admitted thought the kitchen door that was the last time any one every saw of Homer Barron and Miss Emily for some time.
The next time the town saw Miss Emily, she was fat and her hair turning gray. When Emily was in her forty she began teaching china painting but that only last six or seven years. The door to Miss Emily was closed after the last student and remained closed until her death. The only images of Emily in the next years to come could be seen in one of the downstairs window, the upstairs was shut off like a tomb. The death of Miss Emily the two female cousin came to town to arrange the funeral n the second day the held the funeral. They waited until the burial before they decided to enter the upstairs rooms that no one has seen in over forty years. The door had to be forced open, the room was decorated as a bridal room with rose colored curtain, on the dressing table was crystal man grooming brushes with the initial H.B. imprinted. On the bed lay a man skeleton, and then they notice on the other pillow a strand of gray hair
