Topic: Compare and Contrast the book and movie Animal Farm

Animal is a famous political novel was written by journalist, political author and novelist named is George Orwell. I have read the book and watched the movie the Animal farm. The significant of the story is community of the animals that symbolized for the state of Russia its communism in 1917-1945. Animal Farm is first written by George Orwell, and then was filmed by director Stephenson. The movie was the second version of the book this is the reason why the director got more advantages than the author. Like all books, Animal Farm, the book, is differences and similarities from Animal Farm, the movie. One of the reasons is the characters and events. To create the new way to tell the story, director, changed some of the events and adding more character to make it affective.

In the book and the movie, most of the main characters were showed. This makes the audiences not to feel strange for the one who have read the book and easy to recognize which animal is playing. Both the book and the movie were successful at expressing the main themes of it. Because of the same themes, the movie does not against the book at all. That makes the book exciting to read and the movie attractive to watch. The events in the movie happened in order like the way the book was written. The book was the first publisher; Orwell did a very good job at putting events together in order of time. The director also did well at creating a new way to put details together in order like the book did. There is a narrator in the movie that was telling the story when at the scenes the animals unable to talk. In the addition, the novel also has a narrator who is telling the story from beginning to the end. The director and author chose a smart choice at communicating the story by the narrator. It helps audiences understand whats going on in the book and movie easier.

In the movie, Old major the pig (who introduced the rebellion) died while he was singing the song the Beasts of England with the other animals. The director made this choice because he wants the other animals to believe in their Rebellion and also help Old Major complete his desire. Old major was died 3 days after he told the animals about his dream and the rebellion in the novel. In the movie, we see the statue of Napoleon were constructed the other animals, but the novel does not have that scene. This means that all the animals failed to question their leader and Napoleon turned the animals to be his own slave. The director did a good job at showing the animals protected their farm in 2 battles. It happened quickly, Snowball the pigs lead the battle like the real general. That makes the movie more excited. The way the movie expresses the braveness and smart of the animals in the battle, especially Snowball. In the book, we did not see a lot of commandments in the battle like the movie did. On the other hand, the book shows the readers a very long battle between the animals and Mr. Jones, and it was lead by the pigs. Orwell described the battle between the animals and Mr. Jones very excited, that made the readers want to continue reading. The windmill doesn't blow up and get built again as the novel did. By removing this scene, the director missed the moment when the neighbour was attacking the farm to take over. On the other hand, after the windmill crash after the storm, the animals started to rebuild it in the novel. One more time, Orwell shows the readers that all the animals were blindly listen to the evil pigs. One of the main events in the book that were not shown in the movie was the battle where Boxer split his hoof. One more major different between that text and movie is the ending of the story. In the movie, it does end with Jessie the dog cannot tell the differences between the pigs and human. Then, Jessie took Benjamin and few other animals escape with him. They came back after few years after Napoleon died. The director ended the story with all the animals attacked and punished the pigs. This choice of director is acceptable because the pigs deserve to get rid. As a reader, i think the director was right at making this decision.

The movie is set in the English countryside in the early 1900s.The book is set in Russia in 1917-1945. This is a major different between the book and the movie because the director did not follow the book to make it accurately. In the movie, not a lot of animals were showed except for the main characters. This makes the movie look stranger than the novel. I felt like I was watching another movie. However, the movie still keeps the main characters to make it accurately. The book shows as much as animals in the farm. Orwells farm look like a social where the animals live, work and struggle for their life. This is the reason why the animals raised up and against human for their freedom. There are some characters were added into the movie as the duck, Mr. Whimper and Mollie the white mare was removed. The director made a right choice here because by adding the duck, the movie was very fun to watch when the tiny duck tries to help the other animal at the battle. Also, Mr. Whimper is a demonstration used to show the pigs started trading with human which was prohibited. The director did a good job here because he added new characters without changing the plot of the story and makes it more attractive to watch. In the movie, we could know what Napoleon planed to do something while he was acting very nice, but we could see how evil Napoleon was by his actions around the other animals ( sneaking on Snowball, giving a mean look at Old major, kidnapping the dogs, hide at the battle). The director used dramatic irony to help the audience have perdition what will happen. This helped me know have some clues what is going happen to the other characters. You could not know anything about this in the book, because the author did not show the readers how Napoleon reacts to other animals. In the book, Mollie was a character. When she betrayed the animals by being with a human it gave you a feeling that there were more animals that could be traitors. In the movie since there was no Mollie, you did not even have a feeling of suspense for what was going to happen later on. Most of the characters in the movie were be able to talk. Thats why the animals in the movie have opportunities to express their own though and ideas to other animals. I think the director made this choice because he wants to compare human by their speeches, their actions. On the other hand, the story was narrative by someone in the novel and the animals could not tell readers anything. This factor makes the movie is not close to the book.

In conclusive, I would like to say the movie is a quick review of the novel and very fun to watch. Trace the themes of this story by following the novel might be better because the ways author wrote it attractively with lots of details, good characters describing and events happened in order. The major differences between the book and movie are the loss of some characters and events in the movie, but to make audience excited the director added some new characters that never showed in the novel. The movie has a limited time, this is the reason why it cannot show as much as detail as the novel. However, the movie is not a complete accurate of Orwells novel but to have a better understanding about the story you should read the book. There are not many similarities between the book and the movie except for main characters, events happen in order of time and narrator. The director also created a new way to show the story but is seems not very affective to the audiences.
