One of the main characters in the play Julius Caesar by Shakespeare is Marcus Brutus. In the play he had the role of being the tragic hero who does thing out of honor but eventually dies because of it. At the start of the play Brutus was tricked into killing his best friend Caesar, ruler of Rome. After Caesar is killed, Brutus makes a speech to the public telling them why he and the conspirators killed Caesar. When war breaks out between the Republicans and the Caesarians, Brutus realizes his mistakes and kills himself out of honor.

Brutus strongly believed in doing things for the good of Rome. So when he got sent letters from the public expressing concern over Julius Caesars rising power he decided to join the conspirators plan to kill Caesar. What Brutus didnt know was that the letters that were sent to him were actually written by the conspirators trying to manipulate him. It worked as Brutus helped kill Caesar, thinking it was for the good of Rome and honor when really it was about power.

Brutus speech to the public was very dull and boring. Brutus made his speech at Julius Caesars funeral hoping that with his speech he could make the people of Rome understand his actions towards killing Caesar, and forgive him. His speech was in the language of prose but it is too dry and academic for the people of Rome. He argues down to the people, he does not treat them as equals and he keep on explaining that is actions were honorable. His speech was also very over rehearsed which did not spark much emotion from the crowd. This speech shows that Brutus is a very dull and boring kind of person who is a perfectionist and thinks that everyone should be loyal to their country first more than your friend and family. He keeps on talking about honorable intentions that make him seem a bit too idealistic.

When war broke out Brutus made a lot of mistake which resulted in his death. This implies that Brutus was very impatient to get the war over and one with. During the war Brutus gets into conflict with Cassius many times. It just shows how different Cassius and Brutus are as well as showing us who is really at the biggest fault. Brutus after learning that one of the conspirators Titinius has been killed, which was not true, he decided that he would die in honor by killing himself. This is very ironic because just before Brutus claimed that killing yourself was a very Un- noble thing to do. But in the end when he does kill himself he gains his nobility and he redeems himself. This is what Brutus wanted in the first place, to be honorable and noble.

Throughout the whole play Brutus keeps saying that his actions were due to being honorable and doing what was best for Rome. But Julius Caesars death just resulted in civil war, but at the end of it all Brutus came out looking noble and gaining our respect, which was all he wanted. To do what was the best for Rome and being a hero for it. His heart was in the right place and he got rewarded for that in the end.
