Lord of the Flies: Man is inherently good.

In the novel Lord of the Flies William Golding expresses his thoughts about how man will act without order. In order for man to be good there has to be order and laws. An example of how he conveys his message is by the way each character has a different dimension of savage like characteristics. He also writes in his novel that without order there is chaos. He also proves that order and structure is needed even though man isnt born with as many evil tendencies as others. Man is inherently good but without order there is chaos and man will turn into complete savages.

In order for man to be good there has to be order and laws. For example when Ralph tries to establish laws while there in the island. We need hunters to get us meat There arent any grownups We shall have to look after ourselves Ill give the conch to the next person to speak, he can hold it while hes speaking (33). This shows that man has to have order for them not to turn into savages. This also shows that man has to be told what to do because with someone not telling him what to do he will do whatever he wants. That if you do have and you break them people have to pay the consequences. This is just one example of how man needs order.

Without order people start behaving badly because they wont have any consequences. For example when Ralph gets infuriated with Jack and his hunters for not killing the pig so they can eat it. Before I could kill it- but next time! Jack slammed his knife into a trunk and looked at everyone challengingly (33). This demonstrates that once starts to lose its priorities man is one step closer to becoming more savage-like. This exemplifies that order in society has to be there before humanity causes destruction. The purpose of this is that without structure in their daily lives.

Finally when there is no structure man is at its final savage like stage. For example when jack and his tribe are doing their dance ritual and Simon comes running out of no where. The beast was on its knees in the center, its arms over is face The beast struggled forward, broke the ring and fell over the steep edge of the rock to the sand by the water they crowd surged after it, powdered down by the rock, leapt onto the beast, screamed, stuck, bit, and tore (153). This is another characteristic that proves that without order man is nothing but a savage. Since there arent any adults in the island the boys do what ever they want because there arent going to be any consequences for their actions. This finally demonstrates that even though humanity wasnt born with structure it is still an essential part of our lives.

For these reasons stated above that man needs order so it wont have the need to bring chaos or destruction. For example when those guys from Carlsbad beat people with their baseball bats is an example of how man can be a savage without rules but since we have rules their going to have to pay for there bad decisions. In conclusion this proves that man has to have order and structure in their lives because without it there will be nothing but chaos.
