John Miltons "Paradise Lost" explain Satan in a heroic light. In the 1st book the poem is focused on the characters of Satan who has just fallen from heaven.

He tells the crowd of fallen angels to get up, and in an amusing scene they begin to search into the ground. They build a temple which will serve as the location of Satan. This is an example of the ways in which Satan and his followers are going take the beauty and majesty of heaven in hell.

The scene opens in a burning, however dark, lake of hell. Satan, seems to be coming to notice after his fall and finds himself attach to the lake, he sees Beelzebub, the Lord of the fly, who has been transformed from a beautiful angel into a nasty fallen angel. Satan realizes what has just happened. Satan, and so had established war on the creator. Many angels had joined Satan, and the huge battle had shaken God's throne. Satan and his followers had lost and been throw nine times the space that event day and night to hell.

Beelzebub asks him why they themselves still exist. Why did God did not kill them completely, but left them their souls and feelings together to feel pain in hell? In fact God wanted to punish them by forcing them to pain in hell for time without end.

Satan says they must work to fill evil in all good things so as always make angry God.

Satan and Beelzebub meet their strength and take off the burning lake to definitely, though still burning ground. They look around at the dark desert that is hell. So after the war Satan has heard of a new kind of creation that God have it in mind on making called man.

They will go on the war against heaven. The rebel angels then build a temple, a throne room, for their general and for their government. All the millions of rebel angels then meet in the Temple for a great meeting.

Milton's sketch of Satan has cover up critics since Paradise Lost is book, leading some in the romantic period to claim that Satan is, in fact, the heroic protagonist of the whole work. Certainly Milton's depiction of Satan has greatly influenced the devil's image in literature since the book's publication.

Satan is often describe an understanding character in Paradise Lost, despite being the cause of all evil, and in the first chapter the reader is open with some of Satan's pain. Satan tells his army that they were tricked, that it wasn't until they were at battle that God showed the true size of his all power. If they had been shown this force before, not only would the rebel angels not have confirmed war on heaven, but Satan, also, would never have accepted that he himself was better than God.

In Book I, are shown that the most famous thing about hell is its darkness, while heaven is full of shining light. As well, the fallen angels, before glorious and beautiful, are now ugly and disfigured.

In book II Satan has advised all the rebel angles hanging in the volcano top of the Temple. He says to them to give them courage.

Moloch stands up and suggests open war on the arena. They have nothing to lose, he says, there is no hell worse than this that God can send them if defeated.

Belial stands and conflict. Even if God could kill them, he said, he never would. And there just might be worse hells than where they are now. It is a hopeless action anyway, he says.

Mammon stands up and says that neither idea is really acceptable. Mammon suggests no war at all, just build a kingdom where they are, and maybe someday they will have a kingdom that will be equal to heavens.

Satan then tells them of a new battle that God has created called "Man." Man is not as powerful as the angels, but he is God's select favorite between formations. Beelzebub suggests that they seek revenge against God by seducing Man to their side.

All of the fallen angels agree generally to this conclusion. Satan asks for a helper to find out more about this creation, but none helper. They are all afraid of the chaos in the earth. Satan then says that he himself will go.

Hell is described. It has geography like earth, with rivers and mountains, but where all life dies, death lives and nature sort, perverts, all ugly, and all unusual things.

Satan flies to the gates of hell where he meets two beings guard the gate. He knocks there down by throwing endemic and war at the guards.

Satan tells them he is trying to get out of hell to find earth. If he finds it, and there is a race called man, then the three of them can rule it together and Death's hunger will never be satisfied.

Sin the guard opens the gates of hell, which now can never be shut, and they look at the deep hole of Night and Chaos.
