The Metamorphosis

Gregor Samsa a young man whom is not really delighted with his job; but is exceedingly committed to provide a nice apartment and fairly comfortable life to his mother, father and sister Grete. Trapped in a lifestyle that his father and society has chosen for him, Gregor refuses to give up. Gregor has ho friends, is not liked at work, is not ambitious and has no goals whatsoever. In desperation for helping his family, even though they dont appreciate his hard work, Gregor still continues into providing a better lifestyle for his family; A lifestyle that he felt very proud of himself. But one day he wakes up being transformed into a giant insect. The society in which Gregor lived in was once that constrained the individual to their uniqueness and personal growth. Gregor faced angst of not being able to become the perfect son, not being able to pay off the debt that his family was in and the fact that he could not be able to become the citizen the society wanted for him to be.

To his family Gregor simply became the source of income. But he was too scared that one day he could not continue providing for his family and his sister. Although, Gregor dreams that in five years he can quit working due to the fact that he does not enjoy his job and his boss hates him. Gregor recalls the fact that his family never recurred at least not with the same sense of glory when he had given them money for the first time. Gregor feared that he could not be the perfect child that his parents wanted for him to be. Trapped in this fear Gregor follows the many rules of what a perfect child should be and toiled many long hours to provide for his family.

Gregors angst is also felt or portrayed by the fact that he was to scared of not being able to pay off his parents debt in doing so he even had to work long hours in job that he did not enjoy. If [he] didnt hold [himself] back because of the debt his parents owned his boss, [he] would have quit long ago. After the transformation is done Gregor fears that he will be fired from his job, a job that he desperately needs. Gregors fear can be reveal in his preoccupation with financial security. Before his transformation, Gregor is miserable at work, but he can not quit because his father owes to the company he works for. Even though Gregor is miserable at work his angst overcomes him because he does not have the courage to go and find a better job.

Once he is transformed Gregors angst of what society might think and the fact that he can not become the citizen that he is suppose to be he hides in the image that society has converted him in. After his transformation Gregor is placed in isolation. An isolation that little by little sees his death, but also made him realizes the fact that he is no longer needed by his family because he cant do anything. Even though throughout most of his life Gregor was miserable and day by day he had to face a different kind of angst, at the end he dies filled with dreams, hopes and longings, things that before he did not have.
