From a moral critical approach "Young Goodman Brown" was a challenge to stomach. You can tell a lot from a story from just how it begins. As his newly married wife asked him not to go on that that night on his journey and he disregarded her fears and told her to go to bed at dusk was a downhill battle from there. It was a dark tale as he walked and talked to the Devil apparently an old friend of the family. The only way that that is story can help me is to remind me to stay away from the Devil and not be a selfish self seeking person. In analyzing this story it helped me in understanding of the views of the world, lessons applicable to my life and what values to avoid.

In understanding the world women are viewed as inferior and submissive to their husband. Even though faith was in fear of her husband leaving her words were dismissed. This is a reflection of how women are viewed in many places around the world. Value in what they say isnt always taken for as a great value as Faith pleaded put off your journey until sunrise to her husband as he headed out for his journey. He views her as merely longing for his company and merely as a pretty wife. The world still views women as Goodman Brown.

Faith is what can keep one way from the Devil. Faith kept me back awhile (Line 15). Even though this was his wifes name it was still parallel to the story line. I have a hard time reading things that arent positive and are against Jehovah God, so I found this against my morals and is very applicable to my life; therefore, I understand in one way or another we all question if the devil himself is at my very elbow since we all deal with the challenges the Devil presents to us to fight and overcome. Lessons applicable when you walk in darkness the Devil is always present. Even though your ancestors may have taken the path of selfishness and done things they shouldnt, it doesnt mean that we too have to choose the same path.

We all in some way or another hope to go to a place to see our creator and be welcomed a place some people like to think of as going to Heaven. No matter what we do or think or believe religious or not; a bad person or a good person in one way or another we want the same things. Sin rushed loudly upon his ear at least even for a moment as we all continue the fight until our death. This story reminds me of that. The things we need to avoid are the things that bother our conscience.

From reading Young Goodman Brown after deep analytical review I was better to its understanding of the views of the world, lessons that I can apply, and what values to avoid. Avoiding a self seeking attitude will take me out of myself and avoid the traps of the Devil. If he was concerned with someone else other than himself he wouldnt have found himself on that journey. It is still a relevant story no matter the time frame it was in or the location. The moral of the story still stands as long as time moves forward. People of all ages can relate to having moral standards, avoiding bad association, listening to counsel of a loved one and treating others how you would want to be treated. No matter what language, characters, diction, or bases for a story line those things are timeless.
