The Devil in the White City is a historical novel set during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. It follows two primary plots. The first involves Daniel Burnham, architect of the Fair and designer of most of its structures and layout. The second narrative follows serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes, also known as Herman Webster Mudgett, a man who built a hotel specifically designed to trap and kill guests of the World's Fair. The novel explores Chicago at the turn of the century.
