Orlando

Orlando by Virginia Woolf

Orlando concerns the life of a young nobleman during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Orlando has many lovers, and, after being spurned by a woman and betrayed by a fellow poet, he goes to Constantinople. While there, he is transformed into a woman. She lives for hundreds of years, presenting herself at various times as either male or female, falls in love, and eventually finishes the epic poem she started when still a man. This story explores identity, sexuality, and gender roles, particularly with regard to women's liberation.
