The Light in the Forest tells the story of John Butler, a white child kidnapped by Lenape Indians in the middle of the 18th century. Renamed True Son and adopted by a Lenape father, Butler struggles with his divided identity after reuniting with his birth parents in his youth. Eventually conflict erupts between his two worlds, leaving him caught in the middle and conflicted as to his loyalties. In the end he finds himself belonging to neither world.
