Herzog is a novel by Saul Bellow about the mid-life crisis of Moses Herzog, an academic. Herzog is in a budding relationship with Ramona after his divorce with his second wife, Madeline. Moses often writes mental letters to people in his life (to whom he never actually sends the letters) mostly about his disappointment. He hears that Madeline's lover, Valentine, is mistreating his daughter, Junie and plans to kill him. However, after realizing this is not the truth, he abandons his murderous plan and begins to repair his life.
