"The Praise of Folly" is an essay by Desiderius Erasmus published in 1511 that satirized elements of the Catholic church. The essay was widely read and contributed to the start of the Protestant Reformation. The essay is is addressed to his friend Sir Thomas More and is told in the voice of Folly, who praises herself and sarcastically examines the corruption of the Catholic Church. The end of the essay contains a clear declaration of Christian values.
