History of the Peloponnesian War is a work by the Ancient Greek historian and Athenian military general, Thucydides. The history concerns the war fought between the Delian League of Athens and the Peloponnesian League of Sparta, examining both strategic military aspects as well as aspects of internal politics. In contrast to earlier histories such as Herodotus', Thucydides examines the events chronologically in human rather than religious and mythical terms. The text contains many speeches dealing with themes of heroism, liberty and questions of government and democracy.
