Invisible Cities

Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino

Invisible Cities is a story framed by a fantastical conversation between Mongol ruler Kublai Khan and famed Italian explorer Marco Polo. Marco Polo informs Kublai of the many cities, some strange and wonderful, that rest under his rule. Marco Polo's descriptions grow increasingly bizarre, eventually becoming a discussion of speculative cities, cities of which he has heard tales, and cities that never existed at all. The novel's structure is episodic, with each chapter containing a description of a city.
