Top Girls

Top Girls by Caryl Churchill

Top Girls is a play that examines the role of women in business and society. Marlene, the main character, has had to choose between having a child and having a career. She chose the latter, leaving her child with her sister. The play uses surrealism and experimentation to make a comment on feminism and the roles women can take on. The opening act features a dinner party hosted by Marlene, with a cast of historical figures. The final act is a flashback, showing a younger Marlene leaving her daughter behind.
