The Cherry Orchard

The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov

The Cherry Orchard is a play by the Russian author and playwright, Anton Chekhov. The play is a semi-tragic satire of aristocratic landowners forced to sell their land to pay off debts. Madam Lyubov Andreivna Ranevskaya and her children lament the impending loss of their cherry orchard, but are unable to take any concrete action to prevent this from happening. Instead, the bourgeois family remains nostalgic and unrealistic and, in the end, the orchard is chopped down.
