Iago is driven by jealousy, as another man, Cassio, was promoted instead of him. He is also convinced that Othello has slept with his wife, Emilia. The play reaches a tragic end with Iago successfully deceiving and manipulating Othello, who doesn't learn of the trickery until it is too late.
