    A Man of the People is a 1966 novel by Chinua Achebe. The book is a political satire set in a fictitious country based on post-colonial Nigeria. The novel follows a school teacher named Odili whose own teacher, Chief Nanga, has become Minister of Culture. Although he is considered "A Man of the People," Nanga is in fact completely corrupt. After Odili's girlfriend cheats on him with Nanga, Odili leads a political party opposing the regime. Though he fails, a coup later ousts Nanga from his position of power.
