    Journey into the Whirlwind is an autobiographical book by Eugenia Ginzburg, first published in 1967. The book chronicles Ginzburg's life while imprisoned in the gulag during the rule of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. Ginzburg originally attempted to publish the manuscript in the Soviet Union but was turned down and the text was smuggled out of the country. The book follows the hardships and injustices of gulag life, as well as Ginzburg's friendships, love of poetry and her reunification with her son after she wS freed.
