The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay is the story of the two title characters, Joe Kavalier and Sam Clay and their involvement both in World War II and in the burgeoning comics industry of the 1930s. Joe is a refugee from Nazi-occupied Prague while his cousin Sammy, born in New York, was weakened by polio as a boy and wrestles with his identity as a gay man in a bigoted society. The two help bring comics into their Golden Age.
Excalibur: a Novel of Arthur is the story of Arthur, King of the Britains, during his tumultuous relationship with Guinevere and his ascent to the throne of High King. Arthur is pitted against his nephew Mordred against a backdrop of warring Christian and Pagan theology. Arthur, tired of politics and weary of war, wishes to avoid conflict but is pressured into war by Mordred. Eventually he kills his nephew and, heartsick, sails away to Avalon with Guinevere.
