Growing and Maturity in The Road Not Taken Essay

The Right Path

The theme for Robert Frost's poem " The Road Not Taken" is growing up and maturity. When someone is growing up they are getting older in age. They start to think deferinently. Childsh thoughts are left behind. When someone matures they learn responsiblity and know how to take care of themselves. The theme for this poem is very special because everyone goes through growing up and maturing everyday in the real word. So many people can relate to " The Road Not Taken ".

In the poem it talks about there being to paths in life. There is the well travled path and the other path is call the less traveled path. The narrator chooses the less traveled path. This shows that the narrator has alot courage because he has no knowledge about what the path has waiting for him. The narrator wants to be something different unlike the others who take the well traveled path. The narrator also describes that both roads are equally fair. The narrator says, " Two roads diverged in a yellow wood"(l.n. 1). This meshes with the theme because when people grow up they can follow others and be something that they are not or they can take the less traveled path and do something that they love.

The narattor had a plan to return to the fork in the road, but further down the road more forks appeared. So each descion had its own outcome which lead it to be impossible to back track. Every person at some time in their life have went through this stage. People always beat themselves up by thinking if what would of happened if I did something different. Would the outcome be different? Making decsions is a huge part of growing up. The narrator says, " Yet knowing how way leads on to way"(l.n.14) relates to maturing because you will never know the outcome until a descion is made.

In the beginning of the poem the narrator shows no remorse in the descion that he made to take the less traveled path. This is because he is still young. There is no time to think about the descions that have been made. When growing up it is all about moving forward in life. Towards the end of the poem the narrator is much older. He starts to refllect back on all the decsions that he has made. This is very common for most people when they have fully grown and fully matured. They start to think themselves about they could of done differently to have lived a better life. The narrator comes up with a great point. He concluded that with the descions that he made, the greatest descion of all was to make a choice in the first place. The narrator says, "I took the one less traveled by"(l.n.19) the narattor tries to blame his path that he chose on why certain things happened in his life. This is false because both paths were equally fair.

In conclusion, " The Road Not taken" definently fits the theme of growing up and maturity. At the beggning of the poem the narrator does not care right away about the descions that he is making. Towards the end of the poem he starts to reflect on what he could of done differently to get a better outcome. That is the sequence of growing up and becoming a mature. People start off making decsions with barely little knowledge at all. Once they are finally all grown up, mature, and full of knowledge they can look back and figure out what they could of done differently to have a much better life. This is a great peom for everyone because everybody goes through the stage of growing up. Everyone can relate to " The Road Not Taken".
