The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel of Jay Gatsby, a wealthy man from Long Island, who had an extreme love for Daisy Buchanan. Daisy Buchanan was married to Tom Buchanan at the time, but Gatsby and her had a relationship before her marriage and it unexpectedly ended when Gatsby went to fight in the war. Tom Buchanan had been having an affair with Myrtle Wilson who was married to Mr. Wilson and lived between the East and West Eggs and New York City. Gatsby was trying to get Daisy back at the time and Tom was not happy about it. Accidentally, Daisy and Gatsby ran over Myrtle Wilson and killed her. She was running into the street after an argument with Mr. Wilson about the affair she was having. Wilson came to seek revenge and what Tom told him was that Gatsby was the one who killed her. He went all the way to Gatsbys house and killed him.

Tom was secretly having an affair with Myrtle. Nick knew about it and went to meet her one day with Tom. Though I was curious to see her, I had no desire to meet her-but I did. I went up to New York with Tom on the train one afternoon and when we stopped by the ashheaps he jumped to his feet and , taking hold of my elbow, literally forced me from the car,(24). They went into the garage and started having a conversation with Wilson about the car he was going to buy from Tom. While Wilson went to get chairs for them to sit, Tom said to Myrtle, I want to see you. Get on the next train,(26). She agreed and they set up a location to meet. They held their affair at an apartment in the city and saw each other at times. One day, Daisy, Tom, Nick, Gatsby, and Jordan all decided to go into the city for the day. Gatsby and Daisy were going to go alone, but Tom suggested they all go because he knew they used to be in love and that Gatsby wanted her back. On the way back from the city, Daisy and Gatsby went home together in his bright yellow car and went back before the rest of the group. Jordan, Tom, and Nick followed later on in their own blue coupe. Wilson and Myrtle had recently been in a fight. Michaelis, the young Greek neighbor who ran the coffee joint, could hear Myrtles voice downstairs in the garage. He heard, Beat me! Throw me down and beat me, you dirty little coward!(137). Wilson had been struggling with his business, but on the other hand he was realizing that Myrtle was having an affair with another man, but he had no idea who it was. A moment later she rushed out into the dark, waving her hands and shouting,(137), but The death car didnt stop; it came out of the gathering darkness, wavered, tragically for a moment, and then disappeared around the next bend, (137). This was Daisy and Gatsbys car that hit Myrtle. The other car with Tom, Jordan, and Nic came later on and saw a few cars at the garage thinking that Wilson was receiving much needed business. Wreck! said Tom. Thats good . Wilsonll have a little business at last,(137). Well take a look, he said doubtfully, just a look,(138). Unexpectedly, they stopped after they saw the astonished looks on the faces of the people outside of the garage and knew something was wrong. Michaelis explained the story to the policeman and Tom, Jordan, and Nick were able to listen to the whole thing. It is more than likely that Gatsby and Daisy hit her in their car. Daisy was actually driving the car, but Gatsby played it off like he drove the car and not her. Yes but of course Ill say I was. You see, when we left New York she was very nervous and she thought it would steady her to drive- and this woman rushed out at us just as we were passing a car coming the other way.(143). He did this to protect her and because he loved her. Gatsby was outside the house when Daisy and Tom came home and he told Nick the story and how he was going to make sure she was alright the whole night.

The next day, he told Nick the story with Daisy and how they knew each other from before and how they fell in love. They were madly in love until he went away for the war and expected things to be the same afterwards, but things drastically changed. She had married Tom and they were happily in love. Tom knew that Gatsby was trying to win over Daisy again and that he loved her. When Tom went to the Wilson household after the tragic incident, he told him that it was Gatsby who was driving the car. Listen I just got here a minute ago from New York. I was bringing you that coupe weve been talking about. That yellow car I was driving this afternoon wasnt mine- do you know?(140). Now, it youll let me have that name again correct-,(141) said the policeman. Picking up Wilson, like a doll, Tom carried him into the office, set him down in a chair, and came back,(141). Tome had told Wilson that it was Gatsby who drove the car. He wanted to eliminate Gatsby so that he wouldnt go after Daisy anymore and so that Wilson wouldnt think he was with Myrtle, but that it was Gatsby. This was a very selfish thing to do, but in some way it was necessary so that Wilson doesnt go after him. Gatsby was lying on a chair in his pool when Wilson came. He ordered his butler to allow anyone to come to the back and go see him at the pool. The chauffeur heard the shots-afterward he could only say that he hadnt thought anything much about them,(161). It was after we started with Gatsby toward the house that the gardener saw Wilsons body a little way off in the grass, and the holocaust was complete,(162). Wilson shot Gatsby and killed him. After that, he killed himself and the massacre was complete. Not too many people showed up to Gatsbys funeral and Tom and Daisy stayed together and moved away. There is no way to contact them or reach them.

The death of Myrtle was very unexpected and surprising. Daisys head was somewhere else when she ran her over with her car. Myrtle was running outside after her fight with Mr. Wilson about her affair. Tom was having an affair with her while Gatsby was trying to take his wife away from him. Gatsby was actually blamed for this because Tom wanted to get rid of him. This led to Wilson killing Gatsby and then killing himself soon after.
