Who Is Really A Hero

Who is really a hero? Todays modern day heroes are everywhere, from the little things like someone who stands up for somebody who is getting bullied, to the big things like soldiers who fight for our country every day. Heroism is a selfless act preformed by an ordinary person doing extraordinary acts of kindness. In the storys The Crucible and To Kill a Mockingbird, there are a few characters that showed selfless acts and that they were a true hero. The question still stands who is really a hero; a hero is someone who does not stand for something wrong, from the little to the big things, a hero will take any measures to make things right.

In the story The Crucible, placed in 1692 Salem, Massachusetts there was a hero whose name was John Proctor. During this time, the town of Salem was going crazy, loved ones where taken away from there families, friends were split apart all because of a little girl who was jealousy of a relationship. John Proctor did not stand for this; he did whatever it took to bring the town back to sanity even if it meant that he had to die in the process. John ended up giving his life away just to show that he was a good man, and that he wasnt afraid to face what was going to await him after he died. Even though John died for standing up for what is right he was viewed as a hero through the eyes of many.

In the story To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch showed true heroism in the selfless acts he showed throughout the play. Atticus was a simple man, he was a layer for city of Macomb. He was presented with a case to defend Tom Robbinson, a black man who was looked downed upon in socity. Atticus was hated by a lot of the people In Macomb and was called a nigger lover just because he was defending a black man. Atticus stood with his head held high and endured all the name calling and mean looks he got from all over the place. Even though atticus lost the case of Tom Robbinson, he was proven to be a hero because he did everything he could to defend Tom, and nomatter what happened to him he looked at the world as if there was nothing wrong.
