Eustacia Vye, the main character in The Return of the Native, constantly wants more. She's at first content with the attentions of Damon Wildeve, who is about to marry Thomasin to make Eustacia jealous. After Thomasin's cousin, Clym, returns to the heath, Eustacia sets her sights on him, thinking he'll get her out of the country and into a more sophisticated life. The pair end up marrying, but things don't go as Eustacia had hoped. Instead, disappointment and tragedy strike, and Eustacia's desires lead to her downfall.
