The Red Tent is a novel which tells the story of the Biblical figure Dinah, daughter of Leah and Jacob. Dinah shares a close relationship with the women of her family, but becomes estranged when her brothers murder her husband, believing that he treated their sister badly. After this traumatic event, Dinah flees to Egypt and builds a new life. Only after the death of her father does she visit her family again, finding that only her female relatives have truly missed her.
