Legend is a young adult novel set in the dystopian future. June Iparis, an exceptionally gifted teenage girl, has been tasked with finding an capturing Day Wing, a criminal who is wanted for the murder of June's brother. After June goes undercover, she is taken in by Day in disguise, and the pair begins to fall for each other, neither knowing the other's true identity. When June discovers the truth, she turns Day over to the authorities, but soon begins to question the government and her own actions.
"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is a short story about Ichabod Crane, a schoolteacher from Connecticut who travels to "Sleepy Hollow," a Dutch settlement in New York, in the year 1790 to court Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter of a wealthy farmer. The area is notoriously haunted and, during a gathering, Katrina's other suitor and Ichabod's competitor, Abraham Van Brunt, tells ghost stories. Katrina is not receptive to Ichabod's advances and, as he sadly rides home, he sees the legendary headless horseman. The next day, Ichabod has disappeared.
When the Legends Die is the story of Thomas Black Bull, a young Native American man who is raised in the wild by his parents. When they die, though, Thomas is thrown into an unfamiliar world where members of white society try to reform, exploit, and control him. He is forced to learn to rely on himself and to cling to the lessons taught to him by his parents. The novel explores family, blood identity, and native culture.
