Age of Iron is the story of Mrs. Curren, an Apartheid-era Capetown resident and retired Classics professor. Dying of cancer in her home, Curren is confronted with the horrors of the Apartheid system and her own country's deep racial prejudices as violence erupts around her. She is forced to reconcile her academic opposition to Apartheid with her silence in the face of the system throughout her life.
