The Adventures of Augie March is a novel which follows the title character in his exploits from an unprepossessing life as the son of a blind widow in Chicago to his shady and checkered life as a merchant marine sailor. Augie is a colorful character who reads voraciously but eschews traditional education. He romances a long string of women, but without real commitment or deep feeling. His life is implied to continue in that vein after the novel's end.
