A Raisin in the Sun By: Lorraine Hansberry

In 1959 20th century black american playwright Lorraine Hansberry wrote A Raisin in the Sun. Hansberry believed that there is no play with out a message or theme. A theme is often a statement of universal truth. In view of the plays resolution, what truths about human nature does Hansberry present.

The human nature that I leaned about in A Raisin in the Sun are a few different things, the ones i am choosing are Family strength and Dont sell out. Family strength in A Raisin in the Sun, the family is strong even though they are going threw hard times. The family is sad because big Walter died, when the get the insurance check they have some plans. Mama has a plant that defines strength of her family, her dream to own a house, and have a garden. The family is living in a small apartment off a small income and share a lot of stuff, they dont have every thing but they manage.

Dont sell out, this means dont sell out, learn to say no. Well anyways, Mama buys a house for the family with the money from the insurance. She buys it in a white neighborhood. This man Mr Linder visits them and says he is from the welcoming committee where mama buys the house, he welcomes them. Mr Linder explains on how its in a white neighborhood and that they wouldnt like it there or be respected there. He offers to buy the house back for $3,500 dollars, Mama put a down payment of $3,000. The Family tells him to leave. Mr Linder is invited back so they can talk. Walter, Mamas only son, Ruths husband, and Travis father. Walter stands up to Mr Linder and tells him we dont want your money and were moving into our new home. Mama is proud of Walter because he stood up for the family and told Mr Linder that they dont want his offer, and that there making the right choice and that there family is made of hard workers and etc.

My conclusion about A Raisin in the Sun human behavior in Hansberrys drama is that dream can come true. The family got a house that was one of there dreams. Another is that the family has strength, they are going threw hard times with the death of Big Walter living on a small income in tight quarters sharing what they have.
