Romeo and Juliet

From forth the fatal lions on these two foes, a pair of start-crossed lovers take their life, whose misadventure piteous overthrows doth with their death bury their parents strifeO I am fortunes fool!...Then I defy you stars. Romeo and Juliet is a world-wide famous play who was written by Shakespeare. In Shakespearian time the language and setting was very different then now. A movie was made of the play but with a more modern twist to it. There were many differences between the play and movie but there were also many similarities, for example the characters, setting and the plot.

The characters of the Romeo and Juliet movie were somewhat different than that of the play. There were also some similarities like the fact that the families were rivals in both the movie and play. I also noticed that they both mentioned the same characters and all of them were present. All the characters played the same role as the play, but there were also some that appeared more important in the movie then the play. Also, that Juliet was definitely older in the movie then the play because I dont think many people would approve of a 14 year old playing that part these days. In the movie the Prince was actually an officer not a prince which is another difference. The setting was also very different between the two things.

In the movie you notice that it was filmed in the modern time and not the same setting as the play that was in Shakespearian time. The movie was filmed in the city and that is obviously not anything close the how it was in Shakespearian time. As well that the weapons they used in the movie were guns instead of swords like the play. The party that Romeo and Juliet met at was very different than the one they described on the play. In the movie the party in crazy and more like parties these days and you could tell that Romeo was on something. In the play the party was calmer and you could say more civilized. Apart from those differences in the setting there were also some similarities like the fact that it took place in Verona. All the places they went were the same except for the fact that the time made a difference to how it looked. Then there was the plot which also had some similarities and differences.

In the movie the differences in the plot were very noticeable. Like I said before the party was very different like the way they did things and the things that they did. There was also the part were Romeo fights with Paris it the tomb were Juliet was and Romeo ends up killing Paris. Then there is the part where Romeo is about to drink the poison then Juliet wakes up and touches him but he drinks the poison and then says something. In the play Romeo is already dead by the time Juliet wakes up. And after the part where Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead Friar Lawrence comes in and tells Juliet to get out. That part was also not included in the movie and instead Juliet kills herself right after seeing Romeo dead. In the end of the play there is the part where everyone finds out the real story about the love Romeo and Juliet had and they find out that the reason both of them are dead are because of the parents. That because of their rivalry they couldnt see each other and that they had to go through all those events that finally ended with them dyeing. That part didnt happen and in the end the parents never made peace like in the play. There were also a few similarities like the fact that there was a party at the Capulets where they met. Also, that Romeo goes to the tomb and the way that Romeo dies is the same.
