The Yellow Wallpaper

In the beginning of the story the narrator seemed as a normal woman. It seems she doesnt have much say in her marriage. She believes she is sick yet, no one believes she is as sick as she claims. Once I continued reading I start picking up some abnormalities for example, she said This paper looks to me as if it knew what a vicious influence it had! This isnt normal for a person to say. What leads me to believe her problems or illness is much serious then diagnostic.

As I linger more into the story it is brought to my attention that her problems began a long time ago. She states in her diary that as a child she remembers what a kindly wink the knobs of her big bureau use to have. She was also fond with a chair that always seemed like a strong friend. The narrator husband is very attentive of her health. He has certain precaution she need to carry, in result she feels as if he plays a big part in why she cant recover as fast as she wants to. I see why she feels like that. Not being allowed to do certain things can be a bit frustrating.

Through out the story she has different thoughts about the yellow wallpaper. Yet she becomes fond to it. The narrators fancies lead her to believe that there is a woman stuck inside the lurid wallpaper. She also believes that at night the patterns move. Her insanity deepens to the point she also sees the woman creeping on her window. Her state of mind isnt health yet her husband believes she is getting better. In my opinion isolating her in such a way just made her lose her mind. Being kept in a house that seems as a haunted house isnt a place to keep someone, especially a sick person.

What gives me a bit of ambiguity is why do they have two beds if they are married? Does one of the beds belong to their child? Why isnt the child mention? What isnt a doubt is this was a diary of an insane woman. The wallpaper must of symbolizes her way of living. Living to a pattern her husband enforces her to live. As well as not being able to fight her way out.
